The Mermaid Bungalow: A South Florida eDesign Love Letter to the Sea

The Mermaid Bungalow is more than a vibe—it’s a love letter to the sea. When my dear friend asked for help transforming her bathroom, I knew it had to reflect both her lifestyle and personality. To truly capture her essence, I infused deep emeralds, sandy neutrals, and organic textures into the design. I was intentional about honoring the small footprint of the home. Like many South Florida houses, it’s cozy in size—with just two bedrooms and one bathroom. We approached the design with functionality and beauty equally in mind.

Creating a Coastal-Inspired Sanctuary

Creating a space inspired by the sea—without feeling overtly thematic—requires a delicate touch. The key? Layering textures and tones that feel natural and lived-in. By incorporating materials that evoke the ocean’s raw beauty, we crafted a space that exudes both comfort and effortless style.

  • Deep Emerald & Sea-Inspired Hues: Rich greens anchor the space, bringing a sense of depth and tranquility. A bold ceiling that adds a subtle ‘wow’ moment, without compromising the lightness of the space

  • Worn Woods & Organic Accents: Macramé decor, woven baskets, and ceramic details add warmth and texture.

  • Sandy Neutrals & Soft Linens: A handmade seashell mirror is the perfect finishing touch, balancing soft whites and neutral tones to keep the design feeling fresh and inviting.

A Home Designed for Living

At its core, this bungalow is designed for living beautifully yet comfortably. The goal was to craft a bathroom that reflects both personality and functionality. The Mermaid Bungalow is evolving into a beautiful and inviting space—a coastal retreat where she can unwind, recharge, and dream.

This transformation is just the beginning. With each thoughtful touch, the Mermaid Bungalow is becoming a sanctuary—one where every element speaks to a love for the sea and the comfort of home.

X, Mikaela
